Family leadership principles (Abraham)
Introduction: God boasts about Abraham, “...that he will
command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way
of the LORD” (Gen 18:19). Despite the inadequacies that were associated
with Abraham, he had a testimony that he was a good family man; judged by his
ability to command obedience in the ranks of his family. On one occasion, he
marshalled an army and fought 5 kings, defeating them in battle to rescue Lot and
his allies. It is not enough that Abraham or anyone for that matter is reckoned
as full of faith, if the acclaimed virtue does not show up in the way we are
able to lead our families. It’s a challenging legacy that must be pursued.
1 Talking with God …Gen 15:3; 18:23; 17:17.
How much time do we give to discussing the direction for our families with God?
2 Obedience to God’s commands…. Gen
12:4; 17:1-3, 23; 21:12-14; 22:2,3
3 Communication
skills… Gen 12:13; 13:8; 22:7,8; 24:2-4
Summary: The extent and aptness of obedience to God
determines the way our commands are adhered to. Good communication in the home
has no substitute in its place for mutual growth and self-realisation. It
creates the needed ambience for peace in the home.
