Fasting

Memory verse: “ Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” Psa. 27:14 Introduction:  Fasting is an inseparable principle from spiritual advancement, and helpful for health benefits as well. No mighty man/woman ever got to or maintains his/her prowess without it. Ask those who have won and continue to remain in political circles of any country. They have denied themselves some form of comfort: sleep, food, money, or a quiet life. Many times, the Lord has had to ensure His people fasted, or permitted to go through lack before they had RESTORATION. The prodigal son enjoyed the luxury of life while his spiritual being languished in poverty. As soon as he became so impoverished to the point of “longed to eat the pods that were meant for the swine”, he came to himself. Deprivations seem to possess a message that plenty, blinds us from. It is better to choose to deny yourself than to go through such forceful training. We shal...

Visions and dreams 2

In the previous study, we started looking at one of the commonest means by which we are prompted to rediscover ourselves with view to restoration. It can be daunting for the inexperienced to be overwhelmed with dreams for which there are no interpretations. The kings during the time of Daniel feared and quaked, while the servants of Pharaoh continued to look sad and despondent. We are a privileged people since we are bestowed with gifts of knowledge and wisdom. We shall study how to get maximum benefit from these spiritual exercises. Texts:   Joel 2:28-32; Acts 2:16-18 1.        How does one differentiate a mere dream from a divine instruction? ·          Maturity (Joseph) Gen 37:5; 40:8-12; 41:25 ·          Maturity (Daniel) Dan 1:8, 17 ·          A privilege of bestowed wisdom and knowledge (Spiritual gift)-1Cor 12:8 ·  ...

Visions and dreams 1

Introduction: We have been studying the value of communication in restoration. The prodigal son came to himself in the typical scenario of “restoration” before he started the process of returning to the abandoned resources. Often, we need to be awakened from the norm by divine means before we can find our bearing. Indeed, when man fell, it was not man that went looking for God but the Lord went into the garden and started shouting, “Adam, where are you?” visions and dreams are therefore means of divine direction and instruction for God’s creatures. They are so vital that neglect of them has landed several people in our generation within the gloom of deep darkness and despair. Moreover, Isaiah prophesied that in the last days, light shall shine on the Lord’s people while the earth and the people of the world shall be enveloped in impervious darkness. As many believers have joined the band wagon of cynicism, in a bid to remain “politically correct”, we need to rediscover these all-time i...

Good communication

Introduction: Speech precedes action. Before any meaningful event, there must have been some spoken communication. The earth was created by spoken words and by the same means, seasons are ensured. As important as belief is in the path of attaining righteousness, salvation is only possible through speech (Confession). The “prodigal” son cried when he looked at the situation he took himself into. As soon as he made the statements, “I will arise and go to my father …” it set forgiveness in motion and a great welcome/celebration was given in honour to this “rebel who squandered his father’s wealth in riotous living”. Our constitution is wired to respond to speech, so does the entire universe. All it takes for a country to go to war with its neighbour is exchange of unpleasant words or rumours. We need to harness this revelation to benefit in our year of restoration. Text: Isa 55:8-12 1                  ...
