Atmosphere for spiritual discourse

The spiritual world can easily be conceptualised by many laypersons coming to church; whether correctly or erroneously. However, the challenge has always been to clearly demarcate the interface between what constitutes a mindset that nourishes spiritual things and one that nurtures things in the flesh. The snag in this understanding stems from the mere fact that spiritual things as well as issues of the flesh find expressions in the mind. In frustration, many people live in uncertainty... whether they are living by the spirit or flesh. They assume that it is by happenstance that we are spiritual or carnal; and that one is said to be “spiritual” only when the carnal is balanced out in the see-saw puzzle of daily experiences. In reality, this appears to be the case as suggested by Gal. 5:16..which states thus, “Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh”. This statement is aimed at instructing the young believer. For the matured and spiritual folks, life in the spi...

Speaking in tongues

Introduction: One of the most beneficial gifts of the Holy Spirit is to speak in tongues. This gift appears to precede other gifts in many instances and was/is the initial manifestation of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. However, there appears to be muddled up understanding of the usefulness of this gift by some believers. So many people in compromise, who had this manifestation, are reluctant to use it; while others think it is the privilege of a few “approved Men of God”. We shall delve more into this phenomenon in today’s study… Texts: Isa. 28:9-11, 1Cor. 14, 1 1.       When and why was the gift of speaking in tongues promised? Understanding the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Comforter referred to by Jesus, who has come to 1) remind believers of the things He taught; 2) teach us all truth; 3) show us things to come; 4) convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgement; and 5) guarantees us for the inheritance in Christ, among other benefits. The realisation of these benefits shall only come to fruition if we learn to live in the Spirit. We are often overwhelmed by flesh and bodies. The tendency to derogate spiritual things is therefore high. We do this to our peril. Nevertheless, the fullness of the experience of the Kingdom is linked to living in the spirit. We shall attempt to encourage the adoption of a new lifestyle that makes us aware of the spiritual world with view to maximising the truths available to us in God.
