Empathy

Introduction: Empathy is a deep emotional understanding of another person’s feelings or problems without them being communicated directly by the individual. Earlier life experiences can determine their disposition towards being empathetic or not. In other words, if one did not have a balanced emotional life, he/she is not likely to be empathetic towards others. “... But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little” Luke 7: 47. This can breed a lot of relationship problems, leading to abuse of congeniality. An empathetic person puts himself/herself in the position of his/her companion before reaching conclusions about the choices they have made, often lending them a helping hand. This is contrasted to sympathy, which is merely feeling for another person’s misfortune, when they are communicated. We shall study how being empathetic can enhance restoration of relationships in this study.
