Visions and dreams 2
In the previous study, we started looking at one of the commonest means by which we are prompted to rediscover ourselves with view to restoration. It can be daunting for the inexperienced to be overwhelmed with dreams for which there are no interpretations. The kings during the time of Daniel feared and quaked, while the servants of Pharaoh continued to look sad and despondent. We are a privileged people since we are bestowed with gifts of knowledge and wisdom. We shall study how to get maximum benefit from these spiritual exercises.
Texts: Joel 2:28-32; Acts 2:16-18
1. How does one differentiate a mere dream from a divine instruction?
· Maturity (Joseph) Gen 37:5; 40:8-12; 41:25
· Maturity (Daniel) Dan 1:8, 17
· A privilege of bestowed wisdom and knowledge (Spiritual gift)-1Cor 12:8
· Spiritual exercise –Heb 5:14
2. How do visions and dreams enhance RESTORATION?
· Understanding purpose -Gen 15:12-14; 28:12-14
· Discovery of mission -Acts 22:6-10
· Wisdom for making decisions -Matt 1:20,21; Acts 16:10
· Launch pad for confrontation of challenges -Luke 13:31-33
3. How might we receive visions and dreams?
· You are destined to experience them-Joel 2:28; Acts 2:16-18
· Do not trivialise prophecies (1Thess 5:19,20)
· Expect to receive them; declare a spiritual discipline e.g. a fast (2Chr 20:3)
· Be deeply involved with meditations of the scripture (Ecl. 5:7)
· Request the gift to see them (1Cor 14:1)
· Spiritual singing (2Kings 3:15-17)
4. What to do if you do not understand a dream or vision
· Talk to someone more experienced (1Sam 3:9)
· Request a confirmation (Judges 6:37)
The Lord uses several means to communicate to His children and unbelievers alike. He uses many means, including dreams and visions. The horse is ready for the battle, but victory belongs to the Lord. We may have clear and well mapped out plans for success but it is on whom the Lord shows mercy that victory belongs. He communicates these messages of mercy often in visions and dreams. Catch up on it and begin to be restored!
